The version 2 is faster in AI servo focusing and has better IS system. at the every so important 400mm and center of the image, the two are very similar. Version 2 does turn in a better overall performance though when comparing the entire zoom range.

Any differences are probably copy variation as these older lenses have more significant variation. It all depends on if you'd rather have 85mm or 100mm. 85mm is a little bit more handholdable in low light with the shorter length and f1.8. 100mm gives a little more compression.
